From start to end the care provided to me by the Cardiology Department was more than expected, the nurses were helpful, friendly and considerate, the doctors were fine - the consultants I met, one in particualr was fantastic, knowledgeable, understanding, kind and above all explained things in a way that can be understood allowing me to get to grips with what seems a very complex thing.
The booking staff let the hospital down since they send letters out which don't reach you in time, they cancel and rebook but the replacement appointment is months later and then refuse to discuss it - thankfully I manage to get through to the consultant's secretary who was a breath of fresh air and clearly had a wealth of experience with all aspects of the hospital and issues patients struggle with - the secretary was able to contact people in the cardiac centre for me that I could not get through to by actually going to them and asking them to ring while they were there so I could clarify an appointment date/time and alter without risking a cancellation and rebook months later - I haven't had a secretary put them-self out like that in years - and it puts the receptionists at hospital and GPs to shame - the secretary understood and helped when I was at my wits end, they saved me untold stress dealing with the call shuttle as I was passed around in circles - when both consultant and secretary, doctors and nurses are all of such a high standard it is sad that the bookings administration let them down though once you are at the hospital as an in patient or check up I felt safe and in good caring hands.
