I was in to have a mastectomy, which is a big and scary thing, but every member of staff was so kind and welcoming. I stayed overnight, was looked after by the wonderful nurse Karen, who sat and chatted with me for an hour in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. During the day I was looked after by Richard, who was so caring and attentive. Everyone was brilliant and I cannot thank them enough.
My only negative part of the experience was that in the side room I was in, room 3, there were quite a few of the blinds broken off. This meant that I could see out into the corridors and people could potentially see me. Post surgery I felt very self conscious about this and kept my lights off so that no one could see in. When you are feeling quite vulnerable and just wearing a gown, you really want privacy as much as possible. Especially when you are being examined. Please could these blinds be fixed or a curtain put up so that another patient doesn't have to feel this way?
