"Epitome of Care"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

We sadly suffered a missed miscarriage at the end of December, we had gone for a scan and there was no heartbeat. It was such a difficult time for us being our first pregnancy and we didn't get a lot of support from the private clinic we had the early scan at.

Thankfully we got in touch with the amazing team at the Rubislaw unit of RMH and they could not have been more supportive and caring. They got us in straight away for a rescan and took over our care, from that first scan we felt reassured and were given so many opportunities to ask questions, however trivial they seemed.

We then had to wait two weeks for a rescan and over that time we rang the ward a couple of times for questions and they were always so friendly, sympathetic and caring. Sadly after our second scan it was confirmed we had a missed miscarriage and had to decide on treatment options. Megan, one of the nurses, spent a lot of time with us going through all our options, answering questions and being so kind and caring - she is amazing.

We opted for surgery and went in two days later, with Megan looking after us again and helping us through the process. The surgery team, anaesthetist, nursing staff and catering staff were all amazing and we feel so lucky to have received that care.

The plans in place at Rubislaw for caring for couples with a miscarriage is amazing, the staff are all welcoming, friendly and supportive, the links with MISS and their support packages and the memorial garden at Hazlehead are all so important for anyone going through this process. We know a few close family/friends who have suffered a loss recently and unfortunately none of them received the high level of care we did; we feel so lucky to have been treated the way we were, no one wants to be in this position but it is comforting to know there is a great service in place if you are.

Thank you so much for all your care and support so far and no doubt as we continue on our healing journey. And a special thanks to Megan who is a simply wonderful nurse!
