"Waiting times at day surgery"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

In January I attended for an appointment at 12:30pm. I waited in the general waiting area to be called forward. Two hours later I asked if there was a problem and was told that I would just have to wait to be called and that there was nothing that reception could do. I asked again at 3:30pm and was told that it would be a further 15mins. someone finally came to get me at 3:45pm - 3 and 1/4 hrs after my appointment time. Apparently my surgery was the last of the day. My issue is not with the staff but the system. If I had been kept informed of the situation earlier I could have went for lunch or a coffee and came back in plenty of time for my treatment. As it turned out I had had nothing to eat or drink since breakfast (there was not even a water dispenser in the waiting area).

I am sorry to hear of your long wait, there are x2 admission times for main theatre, this allows the medical staff to see the patients before am and pm lists start and allows the smooth running of theatre. This is not an appointment time it is an admission time.

The pm list is from 12.30 to 17.00 you can be called anytime in-between. I apologise no-one kept you updated and you had to ask twice.

If patients are having a general anaesthetic they would be fasting during this time.

As a team we can review this.

I hope all went well with your surgery and you are fully recovering.
