I noticed a swelling on my neck in the summer and thought I had taken a reaction to an insect bite. I forgot about it, then noticed it again several times over the next few months, but life was busy and and the media kept telling us only seek help if its an emergency so I carried on.
At the end of Novemeber I noticed it seemed to be bigger so I made an appointment at my local GP surgery. The nurse examined it and explained it could be a fatty lump, swollen Lymph glands or due to its position the early signs of cancer. She booked me in for blood tests the next day and said she would arrange an x-ray.
The following day I recieved a call from the RCDS, they asked if I would like to be part of their new scheme and allow them to co-ordinate my care. Within a week they had arranged and I attended a CT scan and a week later I had an endoscope examination.
Within 3 weeks of setting foot in the doctors surgery I had all the results and it was confirmed that the swelling was not cancer. Such a relief! I can't thank all the departments enough for their care and expertise. We still dont know what it is, but I can stop worrying about it being life theatening.
