"Not all heroes wear capes-they wear an NHS badge."

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dept of Scheduled Admissions Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Theatres Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Urology (Bladder and Urinary problems)

(as a service user),

Not all heroes wear capes-they wear an NHS badge.

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in my care for my gallbladder removal in February.

I arrived at DOSA, where the nurses were absolutely lovely and explained everything to me to get me prepared. The Anaesthetists and Consultant that came to see me talked me through what would happen in theatre and again helped to reduce my fear. The operating theatre was a bit scary, but the surgical nurse held my hand and everyone explained what was happening to put me to ease.

I was moved to ward 209 where the staff were so professional and caring. Although I was a bit uncomfortable and swollen around the incision sites, I was surprised that I didn't feel as bad as I was expecting.

Two of the Anaesthetists visited me the next morning at different times to check up on me and to ask me a few questions about how I felt after the surgery and explained that they are using different methods during surgery to aid recovery after surgery and each method used may be different for each patient. This felt very patient centred and along with a skilled surgeon, I can only say that I received the best service and care at ARI. I know how challenging things are at ARI with bed and staff numbers, but the staff working there do not let that effect the care they provide or their friendly and caring attitudes.

From the volunteer at the info desk, receptionist at DOSA, domestics, hcsws, catering & shop staff, porters, nurses, doctors, pharmacists and anaesthetists they were all wonderful and I hope this message gets passed onto them all as a huge thank you from me.
