I noticed an unusual spot on my face in June 2022 and my GP referred me to the QEUH Dermatology for diagnosis. I went for a biopsy in August 2022 and did not receive results until October 2022 where it was confirmed I had a Basal Cell Carcinoma. I was due to give birth in November therefore was advised that the surgery to remove this would not take place until I had given birth.
This was a terrible scary and worrying experience and I was understandably going through a mix of emotions myself. I waited until December and decided to give dermatology a call as I had not heard anything. I was then told that I was being re-referred to the West Glasgow ACH for treatment as the surgeons there specialise in this type of surgery and was advised an appointment would be sent out. Four weeks later in January I called West Glasgow ACH and was advised there was no record of me or my referral. I was asked to leave details so that someone would investigate and call me back.
I then waited two weeks and there was no reply. I called back myself and was advised that there had been a referral made from QEUH but it was of very poor quality and did not specify that I had already had a biopsy and confirmed results. I was then told that this was going to be put forward to the consultants and that I would get an appointment out in due course. I am a NHS employee myself and understand there is waiting list etc but to still be awaiting removal of a malignant lesion all this time and after the poor quality of referrals I just dont think is acceptable.
Fast forward another 6 weeks where I have contacted dermatology again today to be told to phone back next week and that no appointment has been generated yet despite my initial appointment being almost 6 months ago. Total lack of communication and no empathy or compassion showed at all.
