A scan picked up a polyp and I was invited to have a hysteroscopy without anaesthesia. I didn't read up too much about the procedure, just read the leaflet given to me.
Wow, it proved intolerable painful. They couldn't even get properly through my cervix. They tried twice and then said it wasn't happening and offered me a general anesthetic.
Within 12 days I was back in hospital in Day Surgery. I had the procedure and it's been relatively painless, no real bleeding and a fine fine team of doctors and nurses cared for me. However it's worth remembering that a GA has a profound affect on the body.
I felt pretty rough for 3 hours afterwards. I think my salivary glands stopped working and I needed anti-sickness meds. However if you find gynaecological investigations unpleasant and painful you can ask to have it done under GA.
If you've got a polyp you must have it removed and it's only 18 hours after my op and I feel reasonably good. Huge thanks to Frimley Park hospital in Surrey.
