February 2023 was the second time (diagnosed around time of getting severe Covid) I have availed of screening within the Northern Ireland Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
As in early 2022, I received a letter inviting me for appointment. I had to phone to change this at short notice, due to difficult underlying condition, and the team member on the phone was understanding and empathetic, offered an alternative date and said to please let them know if I had to change again.
On the day, I arrived at the venue - in my case: Arches Centre, east Belfast - in good time and was shown to the screening area. Both operatives were friendly, well-mannered, explained the process, and we're professional. The place was very clean and tidy.
They said they had sufficient images and would send results/outcome by letter within 2-3 weeks, with copy to GP.
The letter arrived today, as per their stated timescale. I phoned the team today to say I'd got the letter, and to thank them for their efficiency throughout my experience, and thought I should provide positive feedback here too.
Having eye examinations like these can be a little uncomfortable, but the reassurance they provide is very worthwhile, and my own experience with the Northern Ireland Eye Screening Programme means I'd encourage to avail of this very important and welcoming service.
Thank you.
"An important and welcoming service"
