Today my partner and I arrived at the ultrasound clinic at Ninewells hospital in Dundee. Our last scan (12 weeks) was performed by a lady that was obviously having a bad day and unfortunately we were one of her last and we could feel the tension in the room and were afraid to talk as she didn't speak the whole time nor greet us nicely!
Today we were excited to see our baby again but dreaded the same tension. To our surprise we were greeted by a lovely doctor, Dr Orr, for our scan. She was so friendly, polite and genuinely nice. We made a point of not asking any questions anyway and allowed her to do her job.
She was so good at explaining every step of the process and what she was checking/looking for and why. She explained any pauses and silences and reassured us that she was just concentrating and everything was fine. She went over and above really giving suggestions for severe headaches I have been suffering due to pregnancy hormones.
Today was the first and only positive experience we have had at Ninewells. It was lovely to have someone help us who seemed happy to be there and actually enjoying what she does, with a smile and a bit of empathy and willingness to give advice.
We think she is a credit to the NHS and Ninewells is lucky to have such a positive and helpful member of staff. Please pass on our gratitude to Dr Orr.
"Positive experience at our 20 week pregnancy scan"
