Mum was taken to Northampton General Hospital after a fall. X-rays were taken but apparently not reviewed, and she was discharged to home by ambulance the next day (we had no advance warning of this). She was told the bed was needed for someone who needed it more than her.
Continuous falls over the next 3 weeks, as mum tried to be independently mobile.
Community nurses arranged for admission to Northampton General via A&E. By then she was unable to walk or even stand at all.
She spent the whole of that day in A&E on a chair in the waiting area, and that night on a chair in the corridor, and the next day on a trolley in a cubicle.
She was eventually moved to a ward (Eleanor ward.) The nurse phoned to say Mum had fallen in the ward. Finally (it appears) her x-rays were checked and fracture diagnosed. The previous x-rays were reviewed and a hairline fracture detected (from 3 weeks previously).
Surgery performed, but but due to damage caused by so many falls, a normal hip replacement could not be performed, and so a girdle stone procedure was done. Moved to Cedar orthopaedic ward
Over the next 3 weeks Mum got Covid, (and was moved to Willow ward), C Diff, and multiple UTI’s, so no physiotherapy was given.
She was then moved to Danetre Hospital for intensive physio. Built up shoe supplied.
Mum is currently still there, but not physically able to come home. She has no mobility at all. We will have to find a residential care place for her.
