My husband noticed that something wasn’t quite right with his sight. It was no better the next morning so he got an emergency optician's appointment, where he was quickly diagnosed with a detached retina. The optician gave him a referral letter to the A&E department at Musgrove, explaining that it needed to be dealt with as an emergency.
My husband was quite quickly seen by Dr Tan from the Ophthalmology Department, who was on call and had to return to the hospital. Dr Tan confirmed the diagnosis and that it needed to be operated on asap.
Dr Tan must have spent about 90 mins between dilating the eye, checking and double checking everything and getting my husband booked into Derryford Hospital in Plymouth for surgery the following day, which was duly performed by Mr Frimpong-Ansah.
We had to return to Musgrove Eye Clinic so that a post surgery inspection could be carried out by Dr Okane, who said all was well.
We just wanted to say a big thank you to the team at Musgrove for their responsiveness and professionalism which contributed to a successful outcome.
