As everyone says, being on the other side of the NHS as a patient is extremely difficult. Sadly, I was given some difficult news that I required to have surgical intervention for. However, the experience within theatres could not have been more supportive.
Firstly, Stuart (theatre orderly), you will never know the appreciation I have for you in the small action of simply pulling the curtain round in reception. This made me feel I had dignity and privacy in an open area. Donna (reception) and Claire (Coordinator) for checking in and keeping me updated of what was happening. Deb, (anaesthetic nurse), your care was exceptional and your calming nature put me at so much ease and I am so grateful for your understanding.
Dr Ian (Anaesthetist), thank you for all your care and for doing things so quickly and calmly. You were able to read my body language that I didn’t want to discuss too much and just wanted things ‘to happen’. And to Jess in theatre recovery, thank you for making me safe and returning me to the ward after the procedure. I was so grateful to you and all the other recovery team for your help. Thank you all for the care in an area that is often forgotten in a patients care journey.
