Six weeks ago I went in to hospital for a single vessel by-pass. All the staff were very good including the nurses and the anaesthetists etc. The only thing that I found difficult was the lack of aftercare. I am having to keep phoning when I am feeling unwell –I do not get calls to find out how I am doing and I was only visited once at home by a nurse. Also, the physiotherapists visit patients at home if they live in Sheffield but as I had my operation in Sheffield but live in Rotherham, I do not get this service.
I also feel as if professionals don’t always have the time or don’t explain a patient’s condition to them in layman’s terms and I don’t always understand the explanations given.
With regards to cleanliness, I did see staff cleaning the whole time I was in hospital but found that it was some of the patients that left urine samples lying around instead of passing to a nurse or staff. Hospital staff work hard to maintain the hospitals clean but it’s the patients that are often to blame and also have to do their bit!
