I had my beautiful baby girl in Daisy Hill in April. Things took a turn for the worst an hour or so before the baby was born and then I'd a cord prolapse which led to an emergency c-section. The team, led by Sister Aine were amazing. I can't thank each of them enough helping my daughter arrive in one piece. It is an absolute miracle! The midvives up in the maternity ward were fantastic and kind looking after us.
I had to go to the assessment unit on day 9 as my wound started oozing on each side. This lasted right up until my duaghter was 8 weeks. I went up most weeks, often 3 times a week. I was met with warmth, friendliness, expertise and a willingness for wanting to make me better. The more I went up, the more familiar I became with the midwives.
I was made to feel at ease even when there were days my mood was so low with everything that was going on. I felt it was never going to close over and I was still in pain, especially with having a few infections and I'd been put on beta blockers for high blood pressure. I felt like I was missing out on being with my newborn.
They tried different bandages and the PICO machine to see if it would help. Even when they were busy, they did their best to fit me in. Midwife Phil redressed my wound the most. She liked to see the progression. She is a great midwife. Her craic and optimism is infectious.Thank you, Phil. Patricia, Geraldine, Jacinta, Fiona, Ruth, Rachel and Arlene are lovely and anyone in their care is in safe hands. The doctors who checked in were brilliant!
I was only made to feel unwelcome and a nuisance by one midwife. When they were on I did feel very anxious and came home upset by comments they made at times. But apart from that, I have to say, thank you so much for helping this wound to heal.
I have been very lucky with the care also given by the Community Midwives and my Health Visitor, Claire. Frances and Marie from the Tissue Viability team are absolute ladies. Frances' compassion is inspirational. We truly have wonderful people helping us! Thanks a million.
"Thanks a million."
