"Staff go over and beyond duties to help patients"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Surgery Victoria Hospital / Surgical High Dependency Victoria Hospital / Theatres

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Before being transferred to The Victoria Hospital ward 52, I was previously in Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy's High Dependency Unit (HDU). Where they saved my life. I would like to thank the surgeons and the theatre team for their quick response. I was in such a bad way that If it wasn't for their quick response things could have been very different.

I received one to one care and this couldn't be faulted in any way it was just amazing .  The nursing team just always seemed to be there . I felt so safe and secure 24 hours a day Nothing was ever too much trouble for the nursing staff.

One member of staff in particular, Stevie,  he was just brilliant He held great communication skills He was a great conversationalist Talking about everyday things making things seem normal  This really did take my mind off being in hospital, cheered me up and made me look forward to getting well and going home again. He truly did divert my thoughts from tubes and medication to the nicer things in life.

Regarding the surgeons and theatre team the aftercare was just brilliant.

In  ward 52 there are no problems at all, the staff - from catering to cleaning staff - all talk even though they are doing their job at the same time. This really puts patients at ease and the more staff talk  it just makes you feel so much better.

There has been plenty of choice with food but I don't have much of an appetite. Staff always follow this up by asking if I would like a sandwich or a cup of tea.

I don't think anything could have been better. I really do like the open visiting especially when family are working , this gives them the opportunity to visit when it suits. It's so important to see family.

When I wasn't able to mobilise the nurses brought me a shower chair and assisted me with this. It was greatly appreciated.

Overall thinking about my care, The staff go over and beyond their duties to help patients. Although the staff are busy they take the time required with each patient.

I would like to say thank you to all staff, but individually I would like to name Brad, Callum, Brenda, Eileen Elaine, Karen. This is to name, but a few however all care has been amazing.

I would also like to mention the stoma care nurses, Sheila and Lyndsey. They have done a fantastic job in training me with my stoma. They gave me  stoma training and how to change the stoma so that I am now independent on caring for my Stoma.
