"My yearly diabetic eye check"

About: General practices in Lothian Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Diabetic Medicine Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I attended my routine yearly Diabetic eye appointment at my local Medical Centre.   I am a carer  x3  (for my two autistic children and to my husband) which means that my  life can be very chaotic at times and that my mental health hasn't been great of late (I had to be signed off work with depression).  All of this had resulted in me missing  2 previous  diabetic eye check appointments.  The first one  I forgot, whereas I turned up late to my second appointment (the staff member who ran the clinic had already left).

I explained my situation and mentioned to the staff member at the eye appointment  how grateful I am for receiving the reminder letters in the post. Had it not been for the reminder letters  I would have missed my yearly eye check.

One of the things that didn't help was that when I tried to ring  the phone number on the first reminder letter to reschedule the missed appointment I was unable to leave an answer phone message.  I tried 2 times and the same thing happened both times . After this I forgot all about trying again .

As I said above, luckily I was sent another reminder letter and the third time I remembered and turned up to the appointment on time.

Dear Rucki

Thank you for sharing your story with us regarding your recent eye check and appointment letters. It is great to receive your feedback about the phone number not accepting messages. I will be sure to pass this on to the management team and ask for this to be looked into.

Thank you again. I sincerely hope that you feel better very soon.

Take care

Louise
