I was admitted to Ward 66 (General Surgery Ward) of Glasgow Royal Infirmary after vomiting blood. I was concerned about my symptoms however every single nurse I met was outstanding in their care for me for two nights and ensured all of my basic needs were met and were so helpful throughout my admission.
My consultant was good and ensured the relevant tests were ordered which showed low potassium levels which allowed me to get treatment to feel better. The only negative aspect of my stay is the fact that I was cleared for discharge however had to stay for several hours for my prescription to be made available to me, this meant a bed was taken up by me when a patient could have been admitted to it. I would recommend that a review is undertaken to ensure patients are either transferred to a discharge lounge or prescriptions are issued in a timely manner to ensure the ward doesn't have patients who do not need to be there.
Overall, the staff were brilliant and my best interests were kept in mind at all times with a comprehensive admission form completed by the nurse, the nurses were brilliant and so responsive when I needed something and my consultant, Dr Dickson ensured that I received the necessary tests which revealed a problem with low potassium which helped reach the correct diagnosis so I am grateful to the ward for their outstanding care.
