I have recently come away from an appointment at the Breast Clinic at Ipswich Hospital feeling very disheartened and disappointed as I attended on what to me is a very sensitive issue. I have been treated extremely poorly by one member of staff, whom throughout my consultation process has added to an already distressing time for myself.
My initial conversation I had with the consultant over the phone was abrupt, dismissive and rude and at no point did they try to understand my concerns or how this is affecting me. This then continued when I arrived at my appointment in person. On this occasion, the consultant was impatient, brash and showed a general lack of care and understanding towards myself, often cutting me off mid-sentence when I was trying to explain my symptoms and the issues I am suffering from. This, in turn, made me very uncomfortable as the assessment I had come in for was very personal in nature. On top of this, I had requested a scan to ensure I was healthy and this was also very quickly shot down by the consultant without a second thought.
Whilst I understand and appreciate resources are tight, the level of care I received in this incident was appalling. I was treated with no understanding to my situation as well as made to feel like a burden and inconvenience.
Whilst the majority of staff I encountered were warm and friendly, this appointment has left me feeling as if I can’t return to seek care as I won’t be taken seriously or have my health concerns listened to.
"Treated with no understanding about my situation"
