"Emergency Surgery"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / General surgery (Wards 9a, 9b, 9c & 9d)

(as the patient),

I have had a Hernia for 12 years and this week had my second operation to have it corrected, I called NHS24 Scotland and was told to go down asap.

On arrival I was instantly seen by a doctor and had a bed prepared for emergency surgery, as a layer of fat had formed around my bowls which had came up through with my hernia, the layer of fat was so dangerous I had to instantly have it removed and my bowel and hernia put back into place.

I suffer really bad anxiety due to past hospital admissions, but the staff and nurses at the QEUH were fantastic. I was on ward 9B and this one nurse in particular, Janna, helped me so much with my anxiety and helped me settle when I was in the verge of signing myself out.

The nurses on this ward were kind enough to let my mum stay with me the whole time and even provided her with a mattress so she didn’t have to sleep in a chair. The surgeon done a great job and I’m very glad I stayed as I could have died and missed my children growing up.

Thank you all so much, and Janna I hope I see you when I return for my check up, even though you haven’t been doing this long you are and will always be a fantastic nurse and any patient will be lucky to have you. Thank you.

Dear Charleen286

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback on Care Opinion.

I can fully understand your trepidation prior to attending hospital for your operation. Hospitals can be a daunting place at the best of times so to hear the care and treatment you received from our staff was very heart warming.

I was glad to hear Janna was able to persuade you to stay for your operation when it all got a bit too much. I was also happy to hear your mum was allowed to stay with you during this difficult period.

I will be sure to pass on your thanks to all the staff, especially Janna, who I'm sure will be very touched to read your lovely comments.

I hope your feeling a lot better and recovering well back at home. We look forward to seeing you again for your check up.

Kind regards

Kevin

Dear Charleen286,

Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and in particular Ward 9B.

Requiring surgery as an emergency can be an extremely stressful time and I am so pleased to hear that Staff Nurse Janna managed to ease your anxieties giving you the confidence to stay with us and have your much needed surgery.

I am also pleased to hear that your mum was able to stay to support you and that you felt the surgeon had done a great job. I am sure that Janna will really appreciate your words of encouragement and I have made sure that your feedback has been shared with the whole team.

Wishing you well on your recovery.
