I have had a Hernia for 12 years and this week had my second operation to have it corrected, I called NHS24 Scotland and was told to go down asap.
On arrival I was instantly seen by a doctor and had a bed prepared for emergency surgery, as a layer of fat had formed around my bowls which had came up through with my hernia, the layer of fat was so dangerous I had to instantly have it removed and my bowel and hernia put back into place.
I suffer really bad anxiety due to past hospital admissions, but the staff and nurses at the QEUH were fantastic. I was on ward 9B and this one nurse in particular, Janna, helped me so much with my anxiety and helped me settle when I was in the verge of signing myself out.
The nurses on this ward were kind enough to let my mum stay with me the whole time and even provided her with a mattress so she didn’t have to sleep in a chair. The surgeon done a great job and I’m very glad I stayed as I could have died and missed my children growing up.
Thank you all so much, and Janna I hope I see you when I return for my check up, even though you haven’t been doing this long you are and will always be a fantastic nurse and any patient will be lucky to have you. Thank you.
