"I have received really good care"

About: Care at home Glenrothes Hospital / Rehabilitation & Recovery Victoria Hospital / Renal

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have received really good care here in Ward 22 (Renal ) Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. When I was informed that I would require Dialysis. I was in shock.

This was all fully explained to me by Doctors and nurses and I now feel more prepared and much less anxious.

The nursing staff in ward 22 are really good, I can ask for anything at anytime.

I do have nurses visiting me at home as I have had many infections it seems to be a regular thing. I have a good laugh with all medical and nursing staff. I feel the communication overall is good.

I also have carers 7 days a week this is provided by Fife council The care is just fantastic. The carers wash and dress me as I am use a wheelchair. I can only describe them as enthusiastic, helpful and caring. They come into my house and I really do look forward to them arriving in the morning.  It really gets my day started.

Although I have carers I do like to be independent, the carers are aware of this and give me as much care as I need at the time. I feel comfort in knowing that the carers are there to support and give me the help I need.

I have also spent lengthy stays in Glenrothes Hospital. The nurses there are so cheery and will do anything to help the patients. I was being tube fed for a while  and when I started to eat normal again the nurses were so very encouraging. I was offered food to help me get my weight up again They were just so good and supportive.

Dear staffmemberfife1,

I also thank you for taking the time to share your experience with all of our services that you have encountered on your journey. I will ensure that the team in Ward 22 are aware of the difference they made to you through good communication.

Being informed of your requirement to commence Dialysis can be very frightening. It is a life changing moment and it does need thoroughly explained and time given for you to ask questions. I am glad you feel that you received this support and that you felt more prepared to face what is ahead of you with treatment. The team will be there for you to continue to ask any questions that may arise. It is your treatment and we are here to support you through it.

Thank you again and I hope that your treatment is going well.
