"The whole team were remarkable"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Crosshouse Hospital / Speech and Language Therapy

(as the patient),

I was medically transferred to Crosshouse ICU last year from abroad after becoming ill. Crosshouse knew of my case due to Dr Gordon taking the time to liaise with my partner, even on his day off, to ensure that I was receiving the care abroad that I would of got at home - amazing and appreciated.  When I was finally stable enough to return to Scotland ICU were prepared and waiting for me.

The care both physical and emotional that I was given was outstanding.  The departments liaised as my case was complicated. My nurses felt like friends and made me feel safe. Sophie came and sat with me at nights when I couldn't sleep and Madeline, from speech and language, worked miracles with me to give me a voice whilst ventilated.

The whole team were remarkable, kind and professional and made a terrible time for me and my family easier.  We are forever grateful and in awe.

Now a year later the ICU diary I was given through the Inspire programme helps me make sense of what happened and appreciate how far I have come, thankyou, thankyou all of you

Dear Laura95,

Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful feedback of the care received from our multi professional intensive care team. We strive to always achieve outstanding care for people, be it patients or those that matter to them, at what can be a very difficult time.

I am glad that you are making progress through the InS:PIRE programme and wish you well in your ongoing recovery.

I will make sure the intensive care team, including Sophie, Madeline and Dr Gordon see your kind feedback which I am sure will brighten their day!

Best wishes,

Emma

Dear Laura95,

Thank you for the positive feedback and taking time to write it. The ICU staff will be delighted to hear you are making progress. We will also pass on the benefit you got from your patient diary to the team, they love to hear that the diary journal helps with memory gaps.

It was great having you attend InS:PIRE and that you benefitted from it. Keep up the great work with your rehab,

Best Wishes,

Pauline
