"Waiting for biopsy results"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran University Hospital Ayr / Endoscopy University Hospital Ayr / X-rays and Scans

(as a service user),

After several visits to my GP and leaving feeling I was not being listened to,I was eventually referred to a consultant, almost it seemed as an afterthought.

I was sent to the endoscopy clinic and also to the ultrasound clinic.

The endoscopy found that I had erosive gastritis and also chronic gastritis.

I was told this had been caused by drug damage , specifically a long term prescription of Non steroidal anti inflammatories for Arthritis.  During the endoscopy a total of five biopsies were taken. The endoscopy was in January 2023 and I have been waiting since then for the results. I had a second endoscopy in March, where further biopsies were taken. I don't have much hope of getting results from these either.

I called the endoscopy clinic in May and was told my results had been received that morning but I would not be told for at least another four weeks when they would be sent to my GP. I waited five weeks and phoned the GP surgery. They still did not have them and told me to phone every week. I did this for several weeks until I was told to phone the endoscopy clinic again. There I was told that the secretary had left and that the consultant had taken a month's holiday and was then retiring.

A new consultant would see me in August. I still have no results after eight months. Do these people not understand that this is my health, my body?

What right do they have to withhold these results to a time that suits them?

I am utterly disgusted by the way I have been treated. From initially seeing a GP who totally lacked empathy, to waiting for results for the better part of a year. Over the past months I have received no advice or help.
