"Annual Flu Vaccine"

About: NHS Highland Vaccination Centre / Covid 19 Vaccination Programme

(as a service user),

For over 20 years I have had the vaccination at my local GP surgery. NHS Highland have changed how they do the vaccines and they force me to travel 50 miles at my own expense (which I cannot afford and which is bad for the environment and my disability) to Wick to have the vaccination.

In my view, this is ridiculous. Let GPs in remote areas do standard vaccinations. This modern framework may work well in cities but not for disabled elderly people who cannot drive not use a bus. It costs over £50 to use rural transport for this trip and NHS Highland only repay travel costs if they are over 30 miles. Think about your patients.

I am part of the overall team who manages complaints for NHS Highland and are known as the Feedback Team. We offer patients, relatives, MPs/MSPs, staff and anyone who requires assistance is registering a concern or formal complaint.

Dear Remote Highland

Thank you for your post highlighting your concerns regarding Vaccination Services within NHS Highland.

Please accept our sincere apology for the delay in responding to your post.

NHS Highland has been working to adapt its pandemic vaccination response alongside the national requirement for moving Vaccinations from GPs to NHS Board delivery. This has been a difficult and challenging time for the teams and staff involved.

We recognise that current systems still require further devleopment, but I would like to reassure you that we are working with the Scottish Government, Local Teams, Public Health and executive mangement in order to progress services for all users.

We have asked the teams to look at the distances people have to travel in order to achieve their vaccinations and calculate the estimated road distances. Our aim is to offer locations as near as possible for the vast majority of patients, and provide an appropriate accessible clinic.

As we progress the service development we will use your feedback to support the service delivery for your area and ascertain with local teams what the options are that can be sources in order to provide the best service possible.

We are very sorry for the frustration and difficulty you may have suffered in trying to secure your vaccination within your local area.

Thank you for your valueable feedback. This will help us to ensure we are able to progress towards the best possible services for all users.

With kind regards

Sylvia
