"Excellent service"

About: South Tyrone Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit

(as a service user),

I injured my foot over the weekend and felt that I needed to attend the Minor Injuries Unit @ South Tyrone Hospital in Dungannon. Having phoned the Phone First telephone number, a member of staff took my details and I was phoned back within no time by a clinician who was able to offer me an appointment within the hour at the MIU.

I attended and was quickly and efficiently triaged, seen and x-rayed, and clinician confirmed a fractured toe. The treatment was explained to me by the nurse and I was back at work within the hour !

Was so impressed with the care and professionalism of the staff, and the speed with which I was seen and treated. This service is invaluable for dealing with minor ailments and reducing the pressure on the acute hospitals !

My only comment was regarding the amount of patients who arrived on site without an appointment, who had not phoned in first. The need for this is well-signposted by the Trust both on social media, online and posters. Staff dealt with all these patients in an efficient and polite manner, despite some of them being quite challenging.

Well done to all the staff !
