I went into the surgical assessment centre in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow and the staff were so good, it was really busy and they done there best to make you comfortable
I was transferred to Ward 9A for investigation and again the staff were amazing. At that point it was a bit of a blur due to my illness but I felt in good hands.
I was then transferred to ward 9B and all I can say is the staff from the cleaners to the nursing staff/doctors/secretary worked so hard making sure your room was clean to caring for you and making sure you were comfortable.
Doctor/surgeon Witherspoon was a gem and excellent at what he does, every morning smiling and making you feel at ease. He definitely put himself in the patients shoes. The morning of my operation he put me at total ease. He was so lovely and is a big asset to the hospital team. Sister Johnston was excellent too from managing the ward to helping with meals and caring for patients. Walking me out to get my operation at Gartnavel Sister Johnston was still giving me valuable advice on what to do after the operation.
All the staff deserve medals. They are so caring at all times and work so hard.
I went to Gartnavel for my operation and met a lovely lady who prepped me for my operation, from there the anesthetist Sean came in to talk to me, he was great and explained to me everything that was happening, he spent the time answering any questions I had. Then the doctor/surgeon Katbeh chatted to me about the operation, he was lovely and caring too. Again made me feel at ease and this was in the short time he had as he had just came out from his last surgery operation. Wow we are so lucky to have these people who care. The night nurse Claire who looked after me after the operation was brilliant making sure I was comfortable.
These are my suggestions to the NHS Board and to the Government:
1. Pay all staff well from the cleaners right through to the surgeons, they are the backbone off all the care provided.
2. Give all the staff access to their own lift as many a time when I went for a wander the staff were held up in lifts shared by all trying to get their breaks/lunches and home time.
3. Look at you wait times for scans, they are long.
I want to say a massive thank you all each and everyone of you for the care you provided me and I am now recovering at home and that is all down to you all. We as a nation are so lucky to have you all.
Can you please make sue this is shared with all involved.
"The staff are amazing"
