"Maternity Experience"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I am writing this a bit late but with the hope that someone will read it and maybe take some (late) actions or be like lessons learnt.

I gave birth at Stoke Mandeville Hospital 14 Months ago and the care that I received after I gave birth and when I was transferred to the ward was something that I did not enjoy at all.

I feel that the gynaecologist that assisted my birth did not do their job properly and left a tag skin on my private area which for more than a year I am trying to get resolved but no one seems to care. I did not see any nurse for the first 8 hrs that I was in there, only one HCA, who came only once.

I was not asked to order anything for supper (thank God my husband brought me food from home otherwise would have been starving).

I was not offered any regular medications for pain, even if I asked many times for it.

I feel that I wasn't supported regarding breastfeeding, after hours of struggling and crying for desperation staff eventually wanted to send me a breastfeeding specialist - who came only one, was very abrupt with me and just told me with raised voice to keep on trying.

I had to beg the staff to give my little girl formula milk as the little one was crying and I was not able to breastfeed her. I felt very unhappy, and not looked after properly.
