"Bitten by a cat"

About: Kings Cross Health and Community Care Centre / GP Out of Hours

(as a service user),

I was badly bitten by a cat and had no opportunity to go to GP that day. Next day after no sleep, pain and swelling and high blood pressure, I saw a pharmacist in Dundee who agreed I needed antibiotics. She listened to my difficulty of being under overhead lighting, let me wait outdoors while she called Kings Cross Hospital and made an appointment so I wouldn't be waiting a long time under bright lights. Indeed I could wait outside. Reception helped by taking my details and that light was an issue, and a nurse escorted me through to a treatment room. She was very kind and chatty, noted my sensitivities (unusual and important) and a doctor agreed antibiotics were best, prescribed exactly what my nursing experience would suggest and gave them to me with advice re care and cautions. 10/10

Dear Waternb58,

Good evening.

Sorry to hear you sustained a cat bite and hope you are recovering well, after receiving treatment and care advice from our OOH team in Kings Cross Hospital.

I'm delighted to hear that the entire team from our reception staff through to our nursing and medical team, were sensitive to your needs and commenced you on the appropriate treatment for your cat bite.

It is important that you also received care and treatment advice from the nurse who attended to you, to ensure that you are aware of all aspects of planned treatment, as well as being made aware of potential worsening symptoms and when to access care again if required.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this positive experience of accessing care in the OOH period and I will ensure this feedback is shared with the staff involved.

Paula Falconer (SCN/ANP - Tayside OOH Nursing team).
