In the UK, its quite difficult to even get any single specialist doctor, or department to even take you on. Becuase the NHS is funded by tax, and in turn that tax money is passed down through various trusts etc etc. A lot of what are nothing more than "commercial" decisions are made in relation to those funds down the route, also they constantly use the phrase "NHS money is a limited resource, they have to prioritise". This is despite the fact that the average persons monthly national insurance contributions (the part of tax thats suppose to fund the NHS) way exceeds what would be the cost of an all singing all dancing private medical health insurance...which if you had and used would result in an attitude of "we need to find out and resolve whats wrong with this person ASAP, before they get really sick and cost us a fortune!" becuase thats in their commercial interest.
The NHS' commerical interest is to keep you out of the system for as long as possible, and wait until you have to be brought in in an ambulance, with any luck you'll snuff it in a hospital bed within a week or two, and so your lifetimes National Insurance contributions can be used to fund someone whose being more of a pest than you are, and wont just die or go away.
I should state now, these comments are not a reflection on the individual doctors and nurses that make up the NHS. Any individual that takes up a caring profession in my mind is a good person. My comments refer mostly to the managers, government, and non government, organisations that create the methods of practice.
Within the NHS the commercial interest is to get YOU (the patient) out of that particular department as soon as possible so as you are know longer a drain on THAT departments resources, its not even in their interest to find out whats wrong with you, becuase that could mean more expense treating you. They dont care if you then go on to be a drain on another departments resources, thats not even on their radar, its only balancing the books of their department that is important. The outcome for the patient of this being batted back and forth like a tennis ball is that no doctor or nurse is ever accountable for helping the patient, or to diagnose a problem, and thats enough to make anyone anxious, when you've paid £10,000s of pounds in Tax towards the NHS in your lifetime.
