My dad was referred 4 days before he died. The service was invaluable and helped to ensure his death was peaceful.
The team is available 24/7 and all our calls were answered quickly. We required symptom control as the end of life approached and also family support. We made 3 calls that night and received a visit within an hour or less. The Marie Curie staff and overnight district nurses listened to our concerns and acted promptly. A GP also had to visit and was very reassuring and acted decisively on hearing our concerns. The daytime district nurses were also very caring and compassionate towards us all.
As a result my dad died peacefully surrounded by his family and we have memories of a peaceful death. I'm not sure this would have been the case if the service had not been involved.
