"I am so frustrated and feel like a number in the NHS waiting lists"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Dermatology General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as the patient),

Over a year ago now my skin flared up. I have attended my local GP, pharmacy and NHS 24 throughout this time with no real answer to what is wrong, why this has happened. I have never been given a diagnosis nor am I receiving a consistent skin care regime.

Each time I contact my GP I am told to send in a photo and nothing moves forward. My skin is itchy, blotchy, weeping and quite often results in bleeding. Throughout this time my mental health has deteriorated, the constant itch and redness of my skin is embarrassing.

I have asked several times when I will be referred to a skin consultant, with no one being able to give me any definitive answers. I even had to change jobs as my skin was so irritated I was unable to wear the protective clothing required.

I have taken it upon myself to note down what I eat and drink every day, but I cannot pin point a reason. I am so frustrated and feel like a number in the NHS waiting lists. I enquired about private treatment, however I don’t feel I should have to pay for advice and treatment when I work full time and contribute to the NHS.

Dear James86

I am so sorry to hear of the issues you describe and I am sure this will have been a really frustrating and distressing time for you.

The Primary Care team would very much like the opportunity to try and support you to get relevant information from your GP Practice regarding your treatment plan. If you would like us to help with this, please can you send an email with a brief outline including your personal details and the name of your GP / GP Practice to hscpadmin@east-ayrshire.gov.uk (marked for the attention of Primary Care). We will ensure your GP Practice is made aware of your feedback.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with us and sincerely hope your condition improves in the near future.

Sending best wishes

Marie
