My husband is awaiting the provision of hearing aids, but because his hearing loss is so much worse on the left than the right the audiologist who saw him referred him for an MRI of his internal auditory meatus. He was told the ENT department would then be in touch with the results in around 3 weeks. He phoned the ENT Department around 6 weeks later to be told they are taking around 12 weeks to report on scans.
He telephoned the ENT department again recently and this time was told they are looking at the scans done 5 months ago, and so it seems he is unlikely to receive any report on his scan until early next year or possibly longer. This seems an incredibly long wait simply to get the MRI result.
My husband is worried in case he has something nasty, such as a tumour causing the hearing loss difference and this lengthy wait is only adding to his worry. I don't know if the delay is coming from Radiology or ENT but either way, I do feel a nearly 6-month delay to report on a scan is concerning.
If this is not already on your Risk Register then I would suggest it needs to be put on it as a matter of urgency. Meantime, my husband continues to wait anxiously for his results.
