At the end of October I went to my GP as I noticed a change in one of my breasts and found a lump. My GP examined me and said that it didn’t feel like a cyst so was going to refer me to the breast clinic for an urgent appointment and should get seen within 2 weeks.
2 weeks went and I received a letter saying I was on a waiting list so I phoned the breast clinic who informed me that my referral was downgraded and the urgent wait time is actually 10 weeks and routine is 20 weeks.
I went to my GP again mid Novemeber who showed me a letter from the hospital saying even though it is suspected cancer because I am under 30 and because my mum had breast cancer when she was 48 and not under 40 it is not urgent.
My GP said their decision hasn’t changed they still think my appointment should be urgent so was going to put a referral back to the hospital. I have phoned the breast clinic again who have now advised the urgent wait time is 17 weeks and routine is still 20.
I feel because of my age I am not being taken seriously and a 17 week wait for urgent cancer referral is absolutely disgusting.
