"Feeling let down by GP practice"

About: General practices in Fife

(as a service user),

I have been registered with this surgery since moving into the area over 20 years ago and they have always been excellent. However, when the GP retired the practice was taken over by another doctor and to be honest I feel there is no point in being registered with this practice now.

The practice has really gone downhill, in my view. You cannot get to see a doctor anymore. Everything is dealt with over the phone as the new GP believes that telemedicine is the way forward. If I wanted to speak to a call centre, which is what the practice is now it seems, I would just phone NHS 111.

The GP has no idea who we are now, whereas my previous doctor knew me well. Prescription requests are now to be done online and often they are lost or ignored, which is what has happened to me recently.

I requested the medication on a Wednesday, only to go to the pharmacy to find it had not been processed by the GP who are closed on a Thursday afternoon, with the result that I had to submit the request online again when I only had a few tablets left and I wouldn't be able to get it until the next week if at all, and as the medication is for my mental health I shouldn't stop taking it suddenly.

They are campaigning for a new health centre to be built because we deserve better health facilities, but what is the point when they don't see 99% of the patients as they only talk to them on the phone? How about GP's who are actually doing their job and not hiding at the end of a telephone campaigning for a new call centre?

Good morning littlemo

My name is Shelley McBain and I am the interim Service Manager for Primary Care. I am so sorry you are feeling let down by your GP practice, and would like to thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. I would like to look into this further, if you wouldn't mind sending me an email (shelley.mcbain2@nhs.scot) informing me which practice you are currently registered with, I can certainly investigate this.

Thank you, and take care

Shelley
