"Referral to Paediatrics at Ninewells"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter has been referred to paediatrics for ongoing abdominal pain and other symptoms.  I phoned the appointments office today to be told that as this is a routine referral, she will wait approximately 15 weeks to be seen.  How can I watch my daughter suffer for almost 4 months before she gets an appointment? In the meantime, she is missing school, feeling unheard and in pain on an almost daily basis.

Dear Saldo,

I am very sorry to hear that your daughter is struggling with symptoms. It is correct that there is a several week wait for a routine paediatric clinic appointment however this can be expedited if there is clinical reason to do so. Please see your daughter's GP to discuss this and they would be welcome to liaise with the paediatric team via the formal communication pathway if this is felt to be appropriate.

Many thanks for taking the time to get in touch.
