Anything else?
One of the worst experiences of my life. Arrived at 7.15am, put in room with about 12 other people, told nothing. At 10.45 went to desk to ask what was happening and if there was a bed for me, was told 'not yet!', but was on the list! At 11.45 was collected by lovely nurse (one of the very few) and speedily had to get in to gown and taken to theatre.(good job friend was with me to take belongings otherwise would just have been left). Op went well and theatre staff were lovely but when I came round was told that there was still no bed for me! Stayed in recovery 2.5 hours until bed available. Then problems really began. Was just left on own and was in severe pain when partner arrived. Asked for painkillers which were given but did nothing. At 8pm I requested morphine but as cannulor had come out had to wait for doctor. Was finally given morphine at about midnight! Next morning asked nurse when catheter and gauze would be taken out and was told that she was busy and had 6 other patients to attend to.once out I was able to move around but felt that I was a constant nuisance to the nursing staff (apart from two nurses). Did not see a doctor for over 48 hours. I had more care and attention from the cleaner and the catering lady so a big thank you to them. I am getting fed up of cataloging this so basically nursing staff don't care about the patients, the system is a shambles, patients are not kept informed about what is happening to them and the food is absolutely terrible. I left after 2 nights after being severely frightened by the nurse in charge about what would happen if I didn't stay. Because of what she said to me I returned to A&E the following evening and received a completely different approach to patient care. The staff were brilliant and the gynae consultant really put my mind at ease. Am now recovering satisfactorily no thanks to some of the staff the staff at Dewsbury Hospital
