"Excellent service above-and-beyond in A&E"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

Margaret the Health Care Assistant went above and beyond when we were in A&E recently. Long wait for treatment and very long wait for a ward bed. However, Margaret found a sandwich, hot tea and made sure we were comfortable during the wait.

She has a lovely bedside manner and a lovely sense of humour. She took time in every shift to look after us  and it was very much appreciated. It made us feel well cared for and looked after. She’s a wee gem and a real asset to Hairmyres.

Dear Kevin6452

I am very sorry that you experienced a long wait for treatment and then a further long wait for a bed to become available for you, our emergency department and hospital continue to work under significant pressures and where possible we try to ensure our patients are assessed and a plan executed within 4 hours. I sincerely apologise we did not achieve this in your case, at times the reasons for this can be multifactorial and I can imagine this must have been an unpleasant experience for you. I am however delighted to hear that Margaret made the difference to you during this time, I know she will be very happy to learn that you felt her lovely bedside manner and sense of humour helped you to feel well cared for and looked after during your long wait.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback your experiences to us I will ensure the relevant team and Margaret are notified, feedback helps us to continue to know that even when we don’t get it completely right there can be some elements that can go well. This helps to motivate the teams and individuals as well as help us to focus on areas that need improved.

Best Wishes

Kirsty
