About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Surgery (wards 19, 20, 24, 26 &29)

(as a carer),

My mother-in-law is in her 80s, and was recently discharged from RAH ward 24.

Discharge notes state medication (new) not given as pharmacy unavailable. It advised to contact GP for a prescription for new tablets which have to be taken once a day. When I spoke to nurse regarding being unable to contact GP as it's a PH the response was that the problem is we are two different services?

Upshot phoned GP, it is indeed closed, so how do you get the prescribed medication on discharge? Staff on ward seemed unconcerned even when we expressed our concerns. It just seemed to be: off you pop and sort out your new meds on 2 public holidays with no access to community services or GP. What do we do?

Firstly, I want to express my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and frustration your mother-in-law experienced upon her recent discharge from Ward 24 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. I understand the importance of a smooth transition and access to necessary medications. I apologise for any distress this situation may have caused.

I would like to assure you that we take your concerns seriously, and we are committed to addressing them promptly. To facilitate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unavailability of prescribed medication and the challenges in contacting the GP, we kindly request that you or your mother-in-law get in touch with us at your earliest convenience.
