"Husband received excellent care from all staff involved"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18) University Hospital Wishaw / Medicine for the Older Adult (Wards 9-12)

(as a relative),

My husband was admitted to Wishaw Hospital in mid-Dec 2023, seriously unwell with sepsis, kidney failure, aspiration pneumonia and a urine infection. He was taken by ambulance to Resus, and received excellent care from all staff involved. The Dr who took me aside for a discussion about a ceiling of care was sensitive and empathetic, so much better than another recent such discussion I experienced.

My husband was moved to Ward 12 and then to Ward 17, and was discharged on 4th Jan. He received, on both wards, good care over a very busy Christmas period, and we are very grateful to the ward staff and the other staff involved. We were very pleased that Dr Adler, whom my husband, who has Advanced Parkinson’s, has known now for several years. We have always found Dr Adler to be person centred, to give time for discussion, to be excellent at developing a partnership approach, and to be clear and straightforward.

This was our experience during this period in hospital, and we are very glad to have him as my husband’s Consultant. Thankfully, my husband recovered and was discharged yesterday. We would wish our thanks to all the dedicated staff at Wishaw Hospital over this Christmas period to be noted. They are doing a great job.

Dear music123,

Thank you for sharing your recent experience on Care Opinion at University Hospital Wishaw.

I am so sorry to hear how unwell your husband was. It must have been such a frightening time for you both. I am so pleased to hear that the initial clinician spoke to you with empathy and sensitivity. I remember reading your other story and I am glad that this experience has been very different for you both.

Clarity and openness in discussions is so important and helps with person centred care and I am so glad that Dr Adler has this approach with your husband's care.

I will be sure to pass on your praise and thanks to all the staff involved over this busy Christmas period. I am sure the recognition will give them a real boost.

I wish both you and your husband a healthy 2024.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
