"I feel like a load is off my shoulders"

About: Parent Support Link

(as a service user),

I have a friend with drinking problems due to bad things that happened in his past. I have become more and more worried about him and it was affecting me. I reached out to finally speak to someone and psl have been amazing. They listened to me and I could be honest with them without them telling me just to cut him out like everyone else had done. They also helped me understand more around why someone may be drinking and gave me some resources to share with him.

I got the strength to speak to my friend about how it is affecting me and how I am always worried and he is actually looking at some of the info psl gave me that I gave him, it's brilliant. He also said he never even thought how it was affecting me and that, I think, has made a difference to him as well. Thank you psl you have already made a huge difference in such a short time.

I feel like a load is off my shoulders and I can cope knowing you are there.

It's wonderful to hear that you reached out for support and found it in PSL. Opening up about your concerns and receiving understanding and resources can make a huge difference, both for you and your friend. It's also great to hear that your friend is receptive to the information and that your conversation had a positive impact on him. Remember, you're not alone in this journey, and having support can truly lighten the load. Keep leaning on those resources and reaching out when you need to – you're doing a great job supporting your friend and taking care of yourself too.
