"My fathers care"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Acute Receiving Unit (Units 1-5) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

I would like to thank all involved in my elderly fathers care after a fall at home in early January until his discharge 10 days later.  A big thanks to the staff of accident and emergency, acute ward next to A & E (bed 72), 3rd 8A and finally 3rd 52. A&E was exceptionally busy, however the staff remained calm and assured under tremendous pressure (despite private moments of obvious stress). I noted that 'the flow' manager at the heart of A&E was doing a tremendous job in keeping an obviously highly pressurised system moving.

I waited with my dad who was extremely disorientated for 9 hours prior to his admission, which although far too long, however we were extremely well liked after during this period. He had a longer stay in the acute ward than would have been normal but again was well looked after. Although I was unable to visit him in Ward 8, the communication with regards to  what was happening to him was excellent.

During his stay in Ward 52 again the care and communication was superb and a special mention must go to Rachel the OT who I never met but spoke frequently on the phone. her liaison with East Dunbartonshire Social Work to ensure my dad could be discharged asap with an enhanced care package was first class.

His discharge letter was clear and concise as was the liaison with my dads pharmacist ensuring continuity of medication.

Also big thanks to SAS on the day of his admission who were with dad for 3 hours prior to his admission.

Dear Smackmac

Thank you for sharing your story. It must have been a very worrying time so it is nice to read that you are happy with all the care your father received.

If you would like me to pass on your thanks to the ambulance crew may I ask that you contact our Patient Experience Team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your name. Care Opinion name, your father's name and the address and date we attended.

I do hope he is recovering well.

Kindest regards

David

Dear Smackmac,

thank you so much for taking the time to submit a care opinion about your father's recent hospital admission. I hope he is recovering well at home, I’m so delighted you were pleased with all aspects of your dad’s hospital journey, from admission to discharge. As you witnessed, the Emergency Department is an extremely busy unit, but our staff work so hard in challenging circumstances, to deliver a high standard of care to our patients, thank you so much for taking the time to recognise this and letting us know it didn’t go unnoticed. I will pass on your lovely comments to our staff, they will be delighted to receive such positive feedback.

with kind regards,

Karen

Dear Smackmac,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your fathers experience within Ward 52.

I have passed on your kind comments about the Occupational Therapist to the AHP team lead who will ensure Rachel is shared this positive feedback.
