"Angels in the Labor Ward"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Raigmore Hospital Labor Ward Staff,

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the extraordinary care and support we received during our challenging time at your hospital last year.

My wife and I, a Sri Lankan couple, were visiting the Highlands (Skyes) when we encountered an unexpected and distressing situation. My wife, who was five months pregnant, began to experience complications, and we were swiftly taken to Raigmore Inverness. From the moment we arrived, the level of care and compassion we received was beyond exceptional.

Upon arrival, we were promptly attended to by a consultant who conveyed the heartbreaking news of an inevitable miscarriage. This was our first child, and the emotional weight of the situation was overwhelming. Amidst our grief, one nurse, Dee, stood out as a beacon of compassion. Her words, offering to be our support in the absence of family or friends, were a testament to the extraordinary kindness that defines her.

Throughout our stay, we had the privilege of being cared for by midwives Dee and Carrie, as well as consultants like Dr. Adam and many other dedicated professionals whose names, unfortunately, escape me. Carrie's unwavering kindness and frequent check-ins provided us with a sense of comfort and assurance that was truly invaluable. Her compassion did not go unnoticed, and we extend our special thanks to this incredible lady. We are forever grateful for her comforting presence during those challenging moments.

On the third day at the hospital, my wife naturally gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Theresa. The support we received from everyone, from the medical professionals to the staff serving meals, was nothing short of angelic. The genuine care, empathy, and kindness demonstrated by each member of the Raigmore Hospital staff left an indelible mark on our hearts.

Your team's dedication to providing exceptional service to total strangers is truly commendable. The compassion and care we experienced were far beyond our expectations, and we are deeply grateful for the role you played in our emotional and physical recovery. Your commitment to your duties reflects the spirit of Florence Nightingale, and your actions have undoubtedly set a standard for other hospitals to aspire to.

In closing, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional service and care provided by the Raigmore Hospital staff. You are true role models, and we cannot thank you enough for being the guiding lights during our darkest moments.

I wish them “Budu Wewa”.
