"Helpful and attentive staff"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

(as a service user),

Whilst in the Royal Alexandra hospital ward 32 for a small procedure that involved a general anaesthetic, I received outstanding care from everyone who looked after me.

Dr Naheed, the consultant, explained clearly what would happen during the procedure and reassured me regarding any anxieties. The anaesthetist and theatre staff were also very helpful and reassuring particularly during the time I was waiting to be taken in. Even the porter was friendly and helpful taking me up to the theatre. The nursing team, including staff nurses Julia and Suzy, could not have been more helpful in attending to my needs while on the ward including fetching me a much needed hot chocolate and buttered toast after surgery!

Sometimes the NHS gets a bad press for being short staffed and unable to meet patient needs due to the high demands placed on them. But my experience demonstrated how attentive and helpful they can be even under the high demands they face each day! It made what could have been a very stressful experience much more positive and I hope the many NHS staff who care for patients on a daily basis realise how much their friendly and supportive manner helps put patients at ease! A huge thank you to them all!

Dear Patsy77

Thank you so much for spending the time to share your experience following your surgery.

Dr Naheed, our theatre and anaesthetic team, our porters along with Ward 32 - including our nurses Julia & Suzie - will be delighted you had such a positive experience.

It is reassuring that you found the team helpful and attentive despite the high demand being made on the shift. It is good your anticipated stressful situation was much more positive. It is lovely to share with the team that their friendly and supportive manner really does make a difference and puts patients at ease.

I'm glad you enjoyed your hot chocolate - and post op buttered toast is THE best!

I will share this feedback with the gyn team and our other colleagues you have mentioned.

I wish you a speedy recovery,

Kind regards,

Nikki Harvey

Interim Lead Nurse Gynaecology/ACS
