"My 90 year old dad received superb care"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department University Hospital Monklands / Radiology

(as a relative),

My 90 year old dad received superb care at Monklands Accident and Emergency Dept mid-February 2024.

We were referred there from NHS 24 after he had a sudden and intense headache and arm pains

Every person involved were friendly, caring and clear communicators , from the nurse who received him and gave his ECG , other nurses who took blood , and the support worker who took BP and temperature

Unfortunately I dont have the names. The consultant was Gordon. He was a great listener and summarised the situation very well for dad. He explained his various tests and results so well was very reassuring and inspired confidence . He explained the reasons why he wanted a CT Scan to be sure that there was no brain bleed .

He also tuned into dads sense of humour , which makes everything so much easier. He gave us an indication of likely timescales for the next steps, which is very helpful. He was of course handling several cases simultaneously but too time to give us regular updates.

We could never thank him and his team enough for the excellent care we received .

Dear Joely,

Thank you for sharing feedback about your dad's experience in University Hospital Monklands, Emergency Department and Radiology.

What a frightening time that must have been for both of you! I am so pleased to hear that your dad was surrounded by a friendly team who made sure they communicated clearly for him. This would have made a big difference for him. It sounds like Gordon provided some excellent person centred care - despite handling several cases at the one time - and what a lovely personal touch that he tuned into your dads sense of humour and use that to reassure him and inspire confidence.

I can't wait to pass on your kind words and feedback to the whole team. I am sure they will get a real boost in hearing it and take great pride in the difference they made to you all.

I hope your dad is feeling better now.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
