"All of the staff were wonderful, jolly, understanding, attentive and professional"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had a left total hip replacement.

I was disappointed in myself for not coping with the spinal tap but great to have a choice.

All of the staff from entering the ward to leaving were wonderful, jolly, understanding, attentive and professional.

Only improvements would be slightly better food, my orange was so hard I couldn't peel it!!  Being warmer in the corridors, it was chilly going to the theatre.

TVs in the ward as waiting for theatre was boring and I was too tired to read, sleeping was not easy with noises and the pain, but at least it was only one night.

Dear Shimmyit,

Thank you for taking the time to post your response following your Left Total Hip Replacement on Jubilee Ward.

Please don't feel disappointed in yourself regarding the anaesthetic, some patients feel that they would not cope.

Thank you for your kind words regarding the staff, we pride ourselves with always being jolly and understanding, we are very proud of our ward and the patient satisfaction that we provide during their stay with us, and will always strive to give our patients a good experience whilst being professional, caring and attentive.

I will pass on your kind comments to all of the staff.

The corridors outside the ward can be cold and chilly, this is something that the ward does acknowledge and we always advise patients to wrap up when going to theatre, I agree that the corridors could be made warmer.

Unfortunately the new build wards do not have TV access, patients do have to wait for long periods at times, and this can be very boring and tiring for patients. I'm sorry that you had to wait, but I am pleased that you have made such a remarkable recovery and discharged the next day. Hopefully your pain has now settled and you are coping well.

Wishing you a continued recovery.

Best Wishes

Julie Pragnell
