"Not well signposted"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Craigavon Area Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit Radiography services / X-ray Department

(as a parent/guardian),

I had to bring my daughter to ED recently due to a sporting injury. I arrived at main ED but my daughter was eligible to attend Paeds ED.  We were then sent outside and up the Blossom Corridor to attend this department.  When we arrived we were sent to minor injuries department which is back to the main foyer of the hospital and down into the old outpatients department.  Minor injuries done a quick history and examination and sent us for X-Ray - back at the main ED department!  Once the X-Ray was carried out it was back to minor injuries.  I am so glad we have the minor injuries service as its so quick (I was back home within the hour) and the staff are there, no waiting around for a doctor.

The only thing that I feel could be improved is the walking back and forth around the hospital site, that is not well sign posted or explained. Even for someone who knows their way around I was a bit lost.  I work in the hospital building so I knew my way around and had to take other patients with me between departments.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your experience. It is greatly appreciated.

I am glad that your daughter was seen quickly in both minor injuries and in x-ray and I wish your daughter a speedy recovery.

The Radiology team are committed and strive to continually improve and provide a high standard of care & we appreciate greatly your positive feedback on how we can continue to improve the quality of care we deliver.

We will take on board the signage issue and work closely with Estates to ensure that it is clearly sign posted so that in the future patients are better informed to improve the service we deliver.

I will also inform the radiographers to clearly direct the patients back to minor injuries following their x-ray in ED.

Again thank you for your feedback.

Kind regards

Helena

Thank you again for your feedback following your experience with your daughter the in Minor Injuries and Radiology Departments, CAH.

As a multi disciplinary team we have worked together to improve the service delivery for patients attending the Minor Injuries unit following your open and honest feedback.

We have now purple round signages with arrows on the floor in the main foyer directing patients from Minor Injuries to the x-ray department in ED. Minor Injuries staff ask the patients to follow the purple signs to ED x-ray. Once at ED there is a seating area in the corridor for patients from Minor Injuries to wait prior to being called for their x-ray. This area has a large clear sign above the chairs so that patients know that they are in the correct area.

Through collaborative working, the Minor Injuries staff phone ahead to inform the radiographer they are sending over a patient.

To date this system has worked well and the feedback is very positive.

We will continue to keep it under view.

We really appreciate your honest and meaningful feedback. This has allowed us to introduce small but effective changes to help make the patient's journey and experience with us positive. This feedback allows us to continually review and improve the quality of service and care we deliver to the patient by working in partnership with service users and patients.

Thank you again for your taking time to post your experience on Care Opinion and I hope your daughter has recovered well from her sporting injury.

Kind regards

Helena
