"I feel like this service needs more publicity"

About: Continuity of Midwifery Carer Service / Emerald Team

(as a service user),

We have only started our journey with the continuity midwifery team and we needed to write about how incredible it has been so far. I had heard about continuity care but didn’t know how to get involved.

I feel like this service needs more publicity or made more accessible. When we found out we were pregnant we filled in the online self-referral form but we didn’t see an option for continuity midwifery.

We only started our journey with the continuity of midwifery team because of our sonographer Maria who started talking about it at our 12 week scan and asked if we would be interested. Maria then put us in contact with Sarah.

Sarah really deserves a lot of recognition for what she does! Nothing is too hard for her and she is always right on hand to calm any anxieties especially as this is our first pregnancy.

We had our 16 week antenatal appointment yesterday and she was so thorough in everything she went through making sure that we could make informed decisions on each aspect of our care.

She even let us hear baby’s heart beat for the first time which was so very special. I know we are at the start of our journey but I really wanted to make sure that this service is promoted and that Maria and Sarah get the recognition they deserve.

We really are so grateful for the care we have received and feel so calm and confident as we go through this pregnancy. Thank you again Maria and Sarah.

Good afternoon

Thank you so much for your lovely words.

As Lead for Continuity of Midwifery Carer (CoMC) I am delighted with such positive feedback.

CoMC is on the self referral form but as yet we only have one Team operational in Craigavon, Portadown and Lurgan area. This is a regional transformation of Maternity services and we hope this to be the model for all women in time to come.

We are now moving to have a Team operational on the Newry site from April 2024.

I will ensure your story is shared with both Sarah and Maria.

Thank you
