"My Journey with day opportunities"

About: Learning Disability Community Services / Day Opportunities

(as a service user),

I met my new coordinator Briege in November 2023. She supports me with my choices and what I want to do. I attended a voluntary placement that ended, making me feel sad.

My day opportunity coordinator supported and encouraged me to look at other opportunities. At first I did not want to attend anything else as I am very anxious and nervous about meeting new people.

Briege never gave up on me. She provided me with all the information I needed and took the time explaining things to me. We visited the Men's Shed(s),  Open Doors, The Base and the Luncheon Club . I now attend the Luncheon Club and The Base.

I enjoy attending these and I have met new friends and the craic is good. I am happy now that I am attending these

Hi deltatg77, thank you so much for taking the time to post your story. As head of the Day Opportunities Service it was lovely to read that Briege your Day Opportunities Coordinator has been such a support to you and didn't give up introducing you to opportunities until you found the Luncheon Club and the local "Base" recreational facility to be good matches. It is difficult to meet and make new friends but our friends are very important to us so I'm very please to here you are now having good "craic" and have made new friends with the support of our Day Opportunities Service.

Thank you for sharing

Garth (Head of Service; Day Opportunities)
