Client drove 1 hour to Perth midwifery centre to find out that she was still in early labour at 3 cm dilated.

As they were very busy in Perth, with 2 woman already in the later stages of labour, they didn't have a free bed so advised her to head back home. She didn't think she could handle a 2 hour round trip on bumpy roads so the couple had to book into the Perth travel lodge. The poor midwife was mortified they had to do this.

Only 3 hours later the couple had to return to the hospital where shortly after their baby was born.

Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. The staff in Perth Community Maternity Unit are so very sorry to hear of this experience and it really isn't what they would wish to happen to an expectant mum. There is plenty of waiting space in the Unit but obviously your client didn't feel comfortable enough to stay or perhaps wasn't told they could stay. NHS Tayside staff are very sorry and the Unit are going to discuss this case at their handovers and briefings over the next few days.
