Anything else?
My granddad got taken in to Macclesfield Hospital, after he had a fall and fractured his hip. He was in surgery the next day which was great. After going to see my granddad on ward 5 his personal care was not attended to as he required. he was complaining that he was un shaven - So I shaved him. The day after I went to visit him, my granddad was put in the chair next to his bed and left unattended where he fell and none of the staff contacted his next of kin (my nana) with regards to his fall. When my mother asked the staff if it was their policy to contact the next of kin after a fall, the staff replied "Yes it is policy, I don't know why the next of kin wasn't contacted" (So If my granddads health rapidly changed and he went onto the pathway, would any of the family be contacted or left in the dark?) The next time I went to visit my granddad there was blood left on a bandage on top of him (attached to the bed sheet) whilst he was lay in bed. This is a definite no no for any clinical area. all blood, urine, faeces should be put straight into clinical waste to avoid cross contamination. (I ended up putting it in the clinical bin!) When my granddad asked a member of staff if the heating was on, she answered very bluntly "It is on". My granddad also had a catheter fitted, and his urine was a very dark orange colour... Straight away it could be recognised as dehydration or a UTI (The hospital were suppose to send a urine sample to be tested but failed to until me and my family pushed for it) One minute we were told he has got a water infection and next minute he hasn't!! (I wish they would make up their minds) And now the staff have told us that they have done all the tests they can do at this minute in time... Fair enough I know their is only so much that staff can do, but I do wonder if he would of received better treatment at a better hospital???
"Ward 5... Shocking!"
